What is Neurodivergent?

There’s a lot of terminology that gets thrown around, but what does it all mean?

☂️ The Umbrella term “Neurodivergent” is used to describe someone who’s mind or functioning diverges from dominant societal norms, standards or expectations, such as learning, processing, interpreting, feeling, behaving, communicating

 and more.

Neurodivergence can be acquired or genetic, it can be a fundamental part of your identity or not.

Some examples are:

☂️ Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

☂️ Dyslexia

☂️ Dyscalculia

☂️ Epilepsy

☂️ Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)

☂️ Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

☂️ Bipolar Disorder

☂️ Schizophrenia

☂️ Down syndrome

☂️ Sensory processing disorder

What does it mean to be Neurodivergent?

Someone who is neurodivergent behaves, thinks and learns differently compared to someone who is “Neurotypical”.

This term can be used to describe someone whose brain functions differently to what society considers “normal”.

This includes people with ASD, ADHD, Tourette’s Syndrome, and a range of other neurodiverse conditions.
